Sinus Nutrient
Sinusitis is the inflammation of one or more of the sinus cavities or passages.
Sinusitis usually occurs in the sinuses which are located in the bones surrounding
the eyes and nose. This condition can be debilitating, persistent, and with long term health implications.
Symptoms can include nasal congestion, pain around the eyes, frontal headaches, fatigue and earache. In a chronic sinus infection a mild paranasal discharge maybe the only symptom.
There are a variety of causative factors involved in sinusitis. It is most commonly precipitated by a respiratory tract infection such as, the common cold. Food sensitivities have also been linked to sinus problems particularly in chronic conditions. Dental infections affect up to 25% of chronic sufferers.
However any process which can lead to swelling and fluid retention of the mucous membranes, can cause sinus problems. This is due to reduced drainage, leading to stasis in the sinus, encouraging development of bacterial over-growth. The aim of treatment is to re- establish drainage, clear up infection and make the environment less favourable for infection.
Introducing the Sinus Nutrient formula
This is a potent multi-nutrient formulation which is designed to help promote normal sinus function, clear mucous and catarrah build up, fight infection and assist in preventing re-infection. This formula is also beneficial for those suffering from hayfever. It includes a synergistic combination of herbal extracts, vitamins and minerals, specific for the sinus.
Sinus nutrient contains:
Circulation promoting herbals
Strong circulatory stimulant herbs are used to assist the underlying problem of inhibited drainage and congestion. These include: capsicum, garlic, ginger, horseradish and vitamin B3 (niacin).
These make a powerful and effective combination to re-establish drainage, while thinning mucous and catarrah. These warming, decongestant herbs, promote drainage of the sinus cavities, making them less favourable for infection.
Nutrients for fighting infection/improving immunity
Golden seal is a specific herb for treating sinus problems. It is an excellent anti-microbial, reduces upper respiratory catarrah and is tonic to the mucous membranes.
Garlic has a long history as a treatment for sinus, as a powerful anti-microbial, and it also reduces catarrah.
Wild Indigo is useful whenever there is a focused infection, and it reduces catarrhal infections of the nose and mouth.
Adequate levels of zinc are necessary for the function of the immune system and zinc deficiency results in increased susceptibility to infection.
Propolis is included as it is a natural antibiotic, used by bees to prevent infection in the beehive.
Anti-inflammatory properties
Bromelain and quercetin are anti-inflammatory herbal extracts which can reduce inflammation in a variety of tissues. Quercetin is also of benefit as it inhibits the action of allergy modifying chemicals, released by the body in response to pollen in hayfever sufferers. Bromelain, an enzyme derived from pineapple, supports the therapeutic effect of Golden Seal. Golden rod and Eyebright are also anti inflammatory and are anti catarrhal.
Mucous membrane supporting actions
Beta-carotene is converted in the body to vitamin A. This is essential for proper immune function, including enhancement of white blood cell function and increased antibody response. Carotenes themselves have demonstrated a number of immune enhancing effects in recent studies, including enhanced thymus gland function.
Beta-carotene is vital for maintaining the epithelial and mucosal surfaces and their secretions. Golden seal and Beta-carotene are the specific tonics for the mucous membranes.
The latest research
Included in this formula is Baical skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis), a traditional Chinese medicine herbal. The latest research demonstrates its extremely valuable properties including anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic and anti-bacterial actions.
Studies have shown its beneficial effects in allergy, hayfever and chronic infection. The constituents of Baical skullcap can inhibit prostaglandin production and histamine release, thereby reducing the onset of inflammation.
Constituents are also believed to prevent binding between Immunoglobulin E (anti-body commonly found in allergic reactions), and antigens, so it can help stop allergic reactions from occurring, such as hayfever and chronic sinusitis.
The combined effect of these well researched extracts make this an essential formula for anyone suffering sinus, excess catarrah or hayfever.
